Ladies of Energy and Marine Insurance (LEMI) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the advancement and professional growth of women in the Energy and Marine insurance industries. Our mission is to empower women through education, collaboration, mentoring, advocacy, and networking, fostering an inclusive and diverse environment.
At LEMI, we believe that every woman in the Energy and Marine insurance sectors deserves the opportunity to thrive. We are committed to shining a light on the unconscious biases and ingrained behaviors that women have faced, advocating for greater collaboration and inclusion for all colleagues, regardless of gender.
Our members are professionals who dedicate a significant portion of their careers to various aspects of the Energy and Marine insurance industries, including underwriting, claims, sales, brokerage, risk management, surveying, adjusting, and maritime law. By joining LEMI, members gain access to a supportive network of like-minded individuals who are passionate about driving positive change in the industry.
LEMI is governed by a dedicated Board of Directors and Officers, all of whom bring years of experience and expertise to their roles. Together, they guide the organization’s activities, ensuring that LEMI remains true to its mission and values. As a non-profit, our focus is solely on advancing our cause, with all proceeds reinvested into our programs and initiatives.

Cristie Pappas
Cristie is an underwriter with 15 years’ experience focused on the Ocean Marine sector. She holds multiple industry designations and currently serves as Senior Vice President at Tango Specialty, a niche MGA.

Savannah Kenney
Board Member
Savannah is a marine claims handler with experience working from the perspective of the assured, broker, and insurer. She joined Tango Specialty Services as an Assistant Vice President in 2024.

Nikki Howes
Nikki is a 25+ year veteran of the energy and marine insurance market and leads the National Energy & Marine Division of EPIC Brokers, a large national retail brokerage.

Claire Garza
Board Member
Claire is a maritime attorney who has garnered experience in roles ranging from private practice litigation, to in-house counsel positions with a P&I club and a crude trading house. She joined Lockton in 2021 and serves as their Marine Claims Counsel.

Lauren Wilgus
Board Member
Lauren has more than 25 years of experience in the maritime industry across private practice, P&I, and in-house roles. She spent over 16 years as an Attorney at an Am Law 100 firm in New York handling complex maritime and insurance matters.

Toni Trapani
Chapter Head
Toni is a seasoned marine insurance professional with over 27 years of industry experience. She began her career on the brokerage side at Marsh, giving her a strong foundation in client service, before moving into underwriting in 2017. As a Product Specialist for Hull & Liability at RB Jones, Toni combines deep industry knowledge with a practical understanding of brokers’ needs.

Lauren Wilgus
Chapter Head
Lauren has more than 25 years of experience in the maritime industry across private practice, P&I, and in-house roles. She spent over 16 years as an Attorney at an Am Law 100 firm in New York handling complex maritime and insurance matters. Prior to entering private practice, Lauren spent over 7 years working in maritime industry managing claims for an International Group P&I Club and a Japanese ocean carrier. She is currently the Director of Steamship Mutual Insurance Services North America, LLC, based in the United States.
